We arrived at The Stag Brewery in Mortlake, six months prior to cameras turning and we became part of the enormous design process working under award winning Production Designer, Tom Burton. We helped build the world in which our characters would play out their stories.
The sets are rich in detail and with a cast of over a hundred standby artists during some scenes, it was our responsibility to ensure that the period everyday items placed as props, would work as they intended. These items ranged from gas street lanterns and fireplaces to horse drawn paraffin tankers, working (practical) water pumps in the streets, a foundry and even the canvas roof covering the boxing ring in the iconic Blue Coat Boy pub, gently flapping in the ‘London’ breeze.
The boxing ring that features throughout the show had many tightly choreographed fight scenes set in it.
Both the actors and stunt crews threw themselves into the action and obviously needed some protection from falling on a period, wooden boxing ring floor.
Elements SFX created a highly durable rubber flooring shaped as planks of wood, that would survive all of the punishment executed within the arena of combat.
