The 2026 action film Fuze, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was a major undertaking for Elements Special Effects. Brought onto the production at short notice, the team went full steam ahead to orchestrate the controlled demolition of a construction site in Wembley. This presented a unique challenge, as Taylor Swift was performing at Wembley Stadium on the same day, with fans queuing near the location. Elements, in coordination with the locations team, arranged comprehensive safety measures, including public notifications, on-site police, fire engines, and location marshals, to ensure the safety and reassurance of the general public.
The main explosion was a spectacular, high-impact sequence. The team spent a week rigging and testing a three-story partially constructed building, designed to collapse at the push of a button. A custom breakaway structure was prepared in our workshop, which on the day was lined with detcord to destroy the structure, Harvey wall bangers and air mortars set behind to propel debris and dust toward the camera. The crew manually positioned eight 150-litre air mortars across 3 floors to enhance depth and dynamic motionof the explosion. Following the main effect, mobile air mortars were used around the cast to capture multiple POV shots and close-ups while maintaining safe working conditions.
Elements also travelled to a quarry in Kent to recreate an Afghanistan battlefield. Working closely with the stunts and action vehicle teams, we executed small-scale vehicle explosions, flipping and lifting cars, and coordinated long bullet strafes and bullet hit effects to convey the chaos of battle. The combined work of pyrotechnics, practical stunts, and safety planning ensured a visually striking, high-energy action sequence that supported the director’s vision while keeping the cast, crew, and public completely safe.
